Testimonials

After my first hour- long shiatsu treatment I was much more flexible and able to move around much more naturally. My baby is now due in a fortnight and I'm finding it much easier, despite having a heavy toddler to look after too!

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a form of healing through touch. It is beneficial, safe and non-invasive. Like acupuncture it works on the energy channels that cover the body but instead of using needles shiatsu uses gentle palm and thumb pressure to stimulate the energy together with stretches and movement, to release areas of tension or blocked energy. It is these blockages that give rise to symptoms, from specific complaints to just not feeling our best. Shiatsu works on both an energetic and a physical level to create the conditions for change and healing and is soothing, reassuring and enjoyable to receive and clients typically talk about feeling relaxed, more flexible, free from tension, calm, energised and ready to face the world.

Receiving Shiatsu can help you:

  • enhance your health and vitality
  • release tension and experience deep relaxation
  • improve your breathing, posture and circulation
  • reduce headaches and neck stiffness
  • resolve sleep and digestive problems, nausea and anxiety
  • ease stiffness, aches and pains including back pain

Shiatsu is carried out with the recipient fully clothed and lying on a comfortable futon mat, although alternative positions can be used if needed.  Self-help suggestions such as exercises may be discussed.  Shiatsu has a cumulative effect so a short course of treatments, spaced out according your needs, offers the maximum benefit.

If you are planning to become pregnant Shiatsu can be helpful with menstrual difficulties, help you to optimise your health and can play a valuable role in your pre-conception care.

Receiving Shiatsu pregnancy massage can increase your confidence throughout your pregnancy encouraging you to look after yourself and to build an early bond with your baby. It can ease some of the common problems of pregnancy such as nausea and pelvic discomfort. Towards the end of pregnancy it can be effective for turning breech babies and for induction of labour.

After your baby is born Shiatsu can speed your recovery, help you to adjust physically and emotionally after pregnancy, promote relaxation, boost energy levels, help you relax and help with establishing breast feeding. You can bring your baby with you or enjoy a session at home.

Shiatsu is holistic in that it treats the whole person and each treatment is tailored to the condition and needs of the individual. For more information on Shiatsu and its benefits follow the Shiatsu Society link.
